It's easy for those new to the practice of design to get swept away in the excitement of it all and forget the essentials that lie behind successful work. That's the premise of a 20 by 30-inch poster created by designers Erin Eby and Neisha Tweed, and made available for free download in PDF format on their Awesome or Awful site.
Described as a "self-critique tool for young creatives," the poster poses such questions as "Can you give me a reason why every graphic element is there?" Answering 'No' leads to "Take something out and only use what is necessary. Sometimes less is more." with 'Yes' leads to "What if you took away just one thing? Just give it a try. For me." While geared to those creating ad campaigns, there should be something in the poster for anyone engaged in graphic design, whether you're just starting or a veteran.
