Please help us find logos that may violate site rules — Part 10

admin Wed, 10/19/2011 - 00:15

Only original artwork created by the designer is allowed on this site.

The following logos are not allowed:
• Clipart or stock vectors are not allowed.
• Traces of images you do not own.
• Logos that closely resemble existing logos.

If you spot such a potential logo please send me an email, chat me up, or post the offending logo and a reference to the clipart or existing logo. Please only include necessary commentary.

Note: If you use Firefox, Google Chrome, IE or Safari, just visit www.tineye.com and install the plugin/extention. This way, with just a couple of clicks you can check any image for duplicates on the web. This is a very reliable way to find if a logo posted here contains a clipart or otherwise non unique (stolen) image.

I don't want to offence nobody, especially designer, but is this logos similar to my

http://stocklogos.com/logo/iron-horse-24

This is my logos from almost two week ago.

http://stocklogos.com/logo/iron-horse-21
http://stocklogos.com/logo/iron-horse-17

Maybe any of this logo will not win on contest but still...

Avalikmom's picture

Hi MDS,

I think the logos are significantly different. Most of the logos for this brief will have a horse in some shape or another as that is the nature of this brief.

M D S's picture

Of course that horse must have almost same shape if we look on realistic image, and I don't say that is identical design, but style is almost the same. Position from neck where begins, movement of the head, even direction and style of shadows is similar.
It is not the circle to must be a circle.
Maybe I am wrong, but that is my opinion.

NancyCarterDesign's picture

I completely agree with you. Clearly overly inspired.

molumen's picture

The thing is that all these logos are all veeeery deeply inspired by the Denver Broncos logotype. http://goo.gl/hNggO

M D S's picture

Well. This Denver logo rocks. But my it was right from my head.
Here we say "translation" ... invent the hole in the pot.
And I'm smart enough not to take other people's logos. You can see my portfolio.

Avalikmom's picture

So, the point really is, it is a horse head – mounds of logos will look similar just on that basis. Your logo is more similar to these than the other designer's is to yours.

M D S's picture

I did not say anything for other designers. Don't mix up.

And i don't agree that my is similar more than other mentioned logo to denvers logo. Take a close look.
If you look better my logos in that brief you will see the way i was making all that logos.
If you read the brief you will see colors that customers wants, oil drop, eyes. And when i was reading feedback from customers, his word was that he want to horse be more with more action.
I never see before this Denver logo so far. If Admin say that my logo is more closer with look to denver, then mentioned logo i will delete logo immediately.

And what is most important thing. Logos from me and from mentioned logo designer was being in the same brief.
I didn't say that he need must to delete logo, I just say that is very similar.

M D S's picture

BTW. That logo is now sold :)

Avalikmom's picture

Sorry, I guess you misunderstood me. I'm not accusing you of anything. I was just pointing out that all of these logos are horses heads and necks, and that's about the only similarity.

M D S's picture

Its Ok. We going around here. Brief is finish. Logo is buy. And it is over.

I don't think Apple would be too pleased with the resemblance – especially since they use a metallic look, too:

It's still up, so the admins must think it's OK. I wouldn't want to be the company that buys it and invests in rolling out with stationery, web, etc. only to get a cease-and-desist letter from Apple's legal department.

AKMulligan's picture

OK, I need an opinion. I put this logo up earlier this month:
http://stocklogos.com/logo/happy-tomato

Today, I stumbled upon Applex's logo:
http://stocklogos.com/logo/mr-tomato-chef
which pre-dates mine by 5 months. Ironically, it was my husband's idea to do a tomato in a chef's hat and I thought it was cute. Is mine too similar and should I take it down?

Almir C's picture

Same idea, but it don't look like a copy.

molumen's picture

Although both logos share a similar concept, yours cannot be considered a copy since these two logotypes have nothing in common (speaking of proportions, elements, details, and other visual aspects). So no, don't delete yours, it is an original logotype based on a not-so-original idea, I can personally remember seeing about a dozen logotypes with all sorts of vegetables wearing chef hats, many of them being tomatoes.

ApplexDesign's picture

AKMulligan, your action makes you much honor. Great respect for you.
The logos are not equal...... Good Life

AKMulligan's picture

Thanks, Applex! I especially wanted your opinion, since the first logo was yours.

Avalikmom's picture

Night and Day. Yours looks like a male tomato, hers looks female.

AKMulligan's picture

I hadn't thought about it that way!

KLAPPER's picture

suppose I have a similar logo but I do not see the logo before, do I have to remove the logo?
if i had a similar logo may be considered plagiarism, if I remove, I think I made the original logo!
because that makes the logo a lot, now is the best what? sorry if i misspelled.

GraphicIdentity's picture

This logo looks quite familiar to me, because a good friend of mine was the original designer:
http://dribbble.com/shots/90196-Smoking-Diamond
but it made me shock that I found this:
http://stocklogos.com/logo/david-watton

My friend: Daniel Keller, has confirmed that this is a copy cat of his work!
What do you think? :-/

Avalikmom's picture

Yep, way too close to be a coincidence.

GraphicIdentity's picture

.... and the price is unbelievable: $500.00
o_O

artifolia's picture

I´d say it is a stolen idea, yes...!

GraphicIdentity's picture

I hope that logo will soon be reviewed by the SL admin

AKMulligan's picture

Definitely too close.

GraphicIdentity's picture

so how's the StockLogos admin will response upon this fact?
reject the logo?

AKMulligan's picture

This one was sold:

http://stocklogos.com/logo/logo-bank

http://www.internet-marketing-revealed.net/

It's a pretty basic design, so it's a judgement call. Given that one of the other logos on the page is plagiarized, it seems suspicious.

Avalikmom's picture

Yep, probably copied. Or, it wasn't a brief, so maybe that was the final result after changes were made specifically for the client?

JZAR's picture

yes, and my mother smoke and she gives me cigarrettes,
its the same persons the post of GraficIdentity, coincidence? has published 4 logos and two copies ... or more

admin's picture

This is probably credit card fraud. We're investigating.

AKMulligan's picture

I had wondered about this one: http://stocklogos.com/logo/love-7

Seems to have had huge success in a short amount of time, with some logos being plagiarzed.

admin's picture

Yes. Must be fraud.

NancyCarterDesign's picture

Uhoh! SOLD logo is not original work:

http://stocklogos.com/logo/nofearln-studio

http://www.spreadshirt.com/white-navy-moon-man-face-t-shirts-C3376A4875767

($900??)

chrisworks's picture

beyond the plagiarism, I would like to know the buyer :-) (900 $ ?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?)

M D S's picture

Well, company buys the logos and use them for years on what became known. if you take into account how the agency charged, and a few thousand, this is not high price. I think we should appreciate our work. Yet this is the art and technical knowledge.
But plagiarism... One logo can go, but what will happen next with the designer and his "work". Time will tell.

chrisworks's picture

MDS, I was talking about the price compared to the quality and time it took to sell... I know it's a personal opinion but I have some suspicion

NancyCarterDesign's picture

Yeah I think it's suspicious too.... Just uploaded three days ago, designer only has 2 designs in profile, and one of them sells for $900. I think something awry.

ApplexDesign's picture

http://www.die-energie.com/01aabild.gif

Phunkmonster's picture

This has only just sold, so I doubt the designer has been paid. I think if you sell a design that's found out to be stolen you should face an immediate ban. It is after all obtaining money through deception, otherwise fraud. You could get a prison sentence in the real world ;)

admin's picture

This one is probably fraud as well. We're checking with paypal if the client is real.

Avalikmom's picture

Are you saying that those two logos weren't really purchased?

admin's picture

Yes, they were. But I don't want to give ideas. :)

NancyCarterDesign's picture

I recognized this right away:

Too Close: http://i309.photobucket.com/albums/kk395/ncarter11/lion.png

Crumbit's picture

How about this one:

http://stocklogos.com/logo/urology-today

Compared to:

http://uploaded.to/

molumen's picture

http://stocklogos.com/logo/company-5 from zenden1984 is probably a card fraud as well.

XBlueDivision's picture

yes, something strange going on here .... !?!?

Avalikmom's picture

I'll say! It's like all the that designer's logos sold at pretty high prices, some of which IMHO weren't worth anywhere near the prices listed. But I don't understand how the fraud part comes into it.

molumen's picture

The guy has access to some stolen credit card data. He uploads a logo, prices it at 500-900 usd, uses the stolen card to buy it, and receives the money to his paypal account.

admin's picture

We're in contact with PayPal, so he will not get away with it.

Avalikmom's picture

That doesn't make sense. If he is buying the logo, it is SL that gets the money, not the buyer.

NancyCarterDesign's picture

the user is both buyer and seller with diff IDs

JZAR's picture

thinking, ban not the solution, or the ultimate solution, if someone bans morning with another mail comes and does the same, what do it could do to the cheaters do not ruin the page?

AKMulligan's picture

In the case of credit card fraud, there should be some way to press legal charges.

Three copies from the same stockart !!! This is a record :-)

I think this is really unprofessional and disrespectful to designers who really work...

AKMulligan's picture

Good catches!

I had not checked those because Daemon had a long track record of quality original work. It seems weird that somebody with that history would suddenly go that route.

Phunkmonster's picture

Agreed, I thought Daemon was capable of better too :/

AKMulligan's picture

chrisworks's picture

But now I see him back online...

There are also other two of his logos with the same plagiarized concept:

http://stocklogos.com/logo/found-x-dn
http://stocklogos.com/logo/it-fusion

admin's picture

He's now cleaning up his profile. I discussed it with him, he will not break rules no more.

M D S's picture

I think that designer have right to sell logos on more than one sites. but if he sold logo in one he immediately need to put that same logo on portfolio or delete him. Or i'm wrong? Admin?

chrisworks's picture

I sell my logos here and on Brandstack: the logo I sold here are in portfolio or deleted from BS and viceversa.

admin's picture

It's not allowed, but we don't actively enforce it. We think it's not advisable as you may sell the same logo twice before you have the chance to remove it from the other site. It's your risk.

chrisworks's picture

Why not ? Like other designers here, I use the same Username and Avatar on both sites so I'm perfectly recognizable. The probability to sell the same logo in the same time on two different sites is really low...

admin's picture

It happened twice before, so it does happen. Again, I don't actively enforce it and you're responsible.

chrisworks's picture

Ok, it seems that the problem no longer exists...

Go to www.brandstack.com O_o

AKMulligan's picture

Another judgement call. Very similar:

http://stocklogos.com/logo/puzzle-heart

http://stocklogos.com/logo/family-man

chrisworks's picture

I think this could be the case of two different artist with the same idea. Honestly the puzzle pieces and hearts are overused in logo design, so it's very likely to have similar logos made by different artists

It's still up for sale on Zazzle

It also remains on display as advertising:

http://www.websterteeworks.com/
http://www.squidoo.com/origamitiger

admin's picture

Right.

Avalikmom's picture

Wow, you guys were busy this morning! It had been suggested previously that the designers name be posted with the offending logo, and I didn't care one way or the other, but now I see how beneficial it would be, especially since there seems to be a rise in the number of offending logos lately.

It will just make it easier to track number of offenses.

AKMulligan's picture

I think you're right. Usually if a "designer" (and I'm using that term loosely) steals one logo, odds are that they've stolen others.

Phunkmonster's picture

I think this rise in suspect logo submissions highlights the need for a 'logo violation' button on each logo page. A means to flag designs instantly without listing them here. In doing so the logo is temporarily not available for sale until verified as legit.

I also feel that designers that sign up to the site in future need to sign a digital declaration of some sort that states that if any logo is found to be stolen they face an immediate ban, no second chance. Maybe a verified Paypal address too might be an option. If it's verified you have a way to track them as it's tied to an address. Not perfect, but it might help deter some would be thiefs.

AKMulligan's picture

Both good ideas.

Loving this, it's good to see so many people actively looking for copycats! I think there should be a brief for 'logo police' and the admin should have that as their avatar!

ex-homes definitely has to go, it is excalibur for sure.

I dunno - I saw the wiki-leaks logo for the first time today: http://wikileaks.org/

I immediately thought on one of my fav logos on SL: http://stocklogos.com/logo/hour-earth

They are different, but very similar in concept. I'd be sad to see this one go, tho.

I just wanted to say that reading this thread has increased my confidence in selling here. I'm pleased to see how quick the response is to stolen images. (not like some sites I sell on!)

Thumbs up, and I will be submitting more of my work.

Why was this just sold logo never removed, based on the comment left on July 18th? (under the logo)

ghostd7's picture

I thing something strange is going on here. From time to timei chech newest and purchased logos and i noticed two users copying Phunkmonster's work

http://stocklogos.com/user/phunkmonster?page=1 Phunkmonster

and the copycats:

http://stocklogos.com/user/obliquestrategist
http://stocklogos.com/user/obliquestrategist

There is no direct copies but i do know these design from Phunkmonster like soundhouse, the trader man. What i thing is going on someone is copying logos from here and put them for sale again here. The other thing is which i hope is not is that Phunkmonster has multyple accounts.

Phunkmonster's picture

I have three accounts Phunkmonster, Obliquestrategist and 75DollarLogos. There shouldn't be any duplicates in any of the accounts, unless I've missed one, but I don't think I have. I'll have another look. It's a strategy I'm exploring to see if I can corner certain markets at very specific price points and it ties in with my other online accounts such as Tumblr, Twitter etc. It's also a way to keep my main account clean and tidy ;)

It was only a matter of time before someone clocked what was going on. Ivan is well aware of this btw, and I've had the accounts for several weeks.

ghostd7's picture

I was pretty sure it's you but wanted to check. But why is this multiple accounts. I don't think it's fair to other people here. On any other sites creating multiple accounts lead to ban.

Phunkmonster's picture

Why not? If you hadn't spotted the similarities in logos, no one would be any the wiser. Do you think I'm the only person on here with multiple accounts? Seriously? Having multiple accounts allows me to manage very specifically a larger working practice that I've put in place.

ghostd7's picture

Recently there were discusion about designers not to be able to fav their own designs because they abuse recently faved. And now you say you have 3 accounts and it's allowed.

Here's a scenario:
1. I create second account here
2. I start faving my designs every day and removing them and againg faving them. My designs will be in recently faved all the time. You have only one account and hope someone to faves your logos to get to the section. Who has the advantage?
3. I design for a brief and you design for the same brief. I post a comment from my other account how my design is the best choise for the client. How would you feel about it? Knowing that this COULD BE fake account.

My words are not directly to you Phunkmonster(my respect to you) but exsample why should it not be allowed.

Phunkmonster's picture

Yes, I have favourited designs from one account to another, and make no bones about it:

- 75dollarlogos favourites Obliquestrategist designs,
- Obliquestrategist favourites Phunkmonster designs,
- Phunkmonster favourites everyones designs from other members and not my own.

I only favourite the designs once - I don't keep favouriting them. I only favourite 12 on each profile so they sit at the bottom of the profile page and act as a link back to my other design work. So it does and does not go against the rules, as it's individual accounts favouriting other designs, and not their own.

Every designer is here to make a sale, I spotted a way to get maximum exposure that is intuitive and productive. It's not about being sneaky or sly. I'm here to make a sale just like everyone else. I make no apologies for that and never will. The accounts are still anonymous and does not affect anyone else's ability to make a sale.

ghostd7's picture

To be honest i expectd from you to apologie for creating multiple accounts. But there's no clue of Phunkmonster i know - honest and kind. I don't know how you don't see the obvious. It's the same thing if i fave my own designs or you to fave your designs with different accounts. I don't see how this is different. And it's confusing. It will reflect on stolen designs reporting wondering is this a steal or another account.

admin's picture

I understand why you feel this way, but please accept it as an appropriate thing to do. Perhaps we can limit the number of accounts per person to 3?

Phunkmonster's picture

I sought guidance from Ivan regarding this prior to doing it, and he gave the go ahead. I have respect enough for other members and Ivan to discuss issues like this first, without the need to abuse the site.

If each account has unique designs, then there never will be duplicate logos or suspicions of theft. It's only because I was moving stock around from account to account that someone actually noticed. Which, if you think about it is a good thing, as it shows that members are looking out for each other and spotting possibly stolen work.

I have nothing to apologise for, I'm a designer first and businessman second. I'm here to make sales, I respect the site and I go by the book. If Ivan is unhappy with anything I do, I will change it immediately and respect Ivan's decision to do so. I don't take kindly to being branded dishonest by someone who is not if full receipt of the facts.

Keep up the good work, the matter is now closed!

ghostd7's picture

This is really other person. I think i catch angry note in your words. OK. I just thought multiple accounts are not allowed and that's it. If admin says yes so be it. Of course i won't do anything like this because it's a cheap trick and everyone with dignity would agree.

Phunkmonster's picture

The matter is closed.

admin's picture

What I learned from this is that when I allowed this to Phunk, I should have posted about this in the forum, so there is no confusion and the policy is transparent. I just honestly didn't realise it's so important.

admin's picture

As long as you have 2-3 account and favorite your own logos with these it's ok. I don't consider it as abuse, but it's better to avoid this just to be fair to others. If you were to create 10 accounts just to favorite your own logos that would be considered abuse.

ghostd7's picture

I think you should distract from who is doing it and to choose does creating multiple accounts is allowed or not. What is this 3 or 10? If we all can upload $100 and $500 designs under one account then Phunkmonster can too.

admin's picture

I also have two accounts, one is the admin account and another one for my work. But this is a different case as these two personalities have distinctly different reasons for their existence.

I personally don't see the benefit of having multiple accounts for one designer, but I don't see a reason why not to allow so far and I always vote for more freedom unless it hurts others.

Two issues pointed out so far:

1. Favoriting and commenting your own logo in order to bump them in the Recently Favorited and Most Comments views and get more exposure.

I see this as a potential minor issue and I don't think it should be allowed. It will not make any measurable difference to receive 1-2 extra favorites on your account, but if you had 10 or more it would clearly be abuse. So if you have multiple accounts please remove the favorites or comments. The favorites are meant to be used as bookmarks, not as a way to rate the success of a logo. Perhaps we should rename favorites to bookmarks.

2. When there are multiple accounts the two strike rule for banning is harder to manage.

I don't see it as a problem as we only ban less than one designer per month. So it affects a very small subset of users and it doesn't make our work measurably harder.

If I overlooked something I'm happy to revise the policy.

ghostd7's picture

"The favorites are meant to be used as bookmarks" - how exsactly do you understand one person to fav his own design? He's going to buy it? Or he does because next time when he log in to the site to be able to find it easily?

I said OK. If you say yes, Ok. But how 2 faves doesn't break the rules and 10 faves does? What is going on is ridicilous you create different rules for the different users here. Just because he's here from a long time doesn't mean he can do other can't do. What if he had 5 accounts? Will then the allowed number of accounts would be 5?

admin's picture

Favoriting your own logos with other accounts and having multiple accounts is two different questions. Favoriting as we already discussed (because I'm in agreement with you) is not allowed, but having multiple accounts is allowed because it does no harm to others.

I don't make up rules for different users. The same rules apply to all users equally. If you find evidence to the contrary please point it out so I can correct my unintentional mistake.

Phunkmonster's picture

RIGHT! For all you cry babies out there I've removed all favourites from my two additional accounts. So there can be absolutely no chance of me being called dishonest and using cheap tricks! Seriously, all I did was set up three distinct accounts much like anyone would set up three market stalls... and it causes all sorts of trouble and flak.

The decision to remove these favourites was of my own making, not Ivan's. Contrary to popular belief I respect Ivan and this site and work hard to promote it and make it a success. It saddens me to think that something so simple and intuitive could lead to such aggravation from certain members.

The matter is now closed. If you have any further issues discuss it with Ivan.

*Rant over*

admin's picture

Cry baby or not, but make no mistake folks I do appreciate his arguments regardless of the tone. :)

Thanks for everyone for being so kind and resolve this issue!

ghostd7's picture

So now offend me? Why? Did i said something not true? Can you give me your arguments of my points against multiple accounts. I feel so bad about you stick together and not seeing the ovbious. Keep offending others. With such attitude soon Sl will post the same message like brandstack explainig how the reason is unexsisting fraud.

ghostd7's picture

Please don't cal me crying baby. I haven't called with such stupid names. I just saw your designs and decided to put them here for discution what's going on. How the hell am i supposed to know that the site allows such things that all other sites find as abuse and strictly fight against. With all mu respect to you and to Ivan i thing it's not fair to other people some of us to have more that one account and faving their own logos. I don't see the differnce between fav own work with one account or other. And i got no reasanoble explanation for doing it neighter from you or Ivan. If this was done by someone else and new member I'm sure it wouldn't be allowed. And how admin doesn't see the issue, how the problem is wqith the number of the accounts and not the fact that someone represents his work as different person.

Phunkmonster, i don't know if you had bad day or something but i won't let you takl to me like that. When i call you with that kind of words then you can call me. OK? I'm not your brother or sister or anything to act like you know me and call me whatever.

I pointed all the issues this multiple accounts could lead and no one says yes it's true but instead of this Ivan protecting you just because you're here from a long time. I think it's time to face the facts and realise that if someone who is your "friend" asks you to pass the rules you better say no. What if tomorrow Nancy for exsample submit clipart - will you change the rules because of her?

Phunkmonster's picture

The cry baby comment was a throw away one, it was not aimed at you specifically. It was a poor choice of words - but it did express my frustration at the seemingly childish acqusations being banded about on the site. Apologies if you feel upset, it wasn't meant to be hurtful.

The matter is now closed, there is nothing more to discuss.

admin's picture

"I don't see the differnce between fav own work with one account or other."

Perhaps you're not reading our comments, but we already established that we agree with you and Phunk deleted those favorites. Please stop saying it as if it was an argument that we didn't address.

If the multiple accounts bother you in any way please give me a rational reason for it, so I have something to work with.

ghostd7's picture

I already pointed them but you don't give a damn about it. All you say is "if i'm wrong please correct me". Here's what will happen - i'll create 10 accounts and will fav my designs all the time and they will be all the time in the recent faved. Do you still not see the issue? You simply don't want to admit that you did wrong about Phunkmonster's request and now you will pay for it. Everyone will create multiple accounts. Go deal with it. With such managing this site will soon get down.

admin's picture

I give up. :D

ghostd7's picture

As a manager of the site you should not give up but clearly state the rules and the arguments behind them. I still don't see why faving your own designs is not allowed but i pointed why multiple accounts should not be. I'm not against you or Phunkmonster and i think this would harm the site but if you don't see a problem OK. It's not my problem.

Avalikmom's picture

I don't think name calling is appropriate.

admin's picture

Agreed

NancyCarterDesign's picture

I think it's a clever solution for a problem many of us have! I have high quality designs and some that I think would sell for a far lower price point. I could see a buyer thinking well if she has these logos for $100 She certainly is overcharging for this $500 logo.

It never occurred to me to do this! I was going quite mad trying to find your designs under your main acct. I remember specific comments on some designs and couldn't' figure out why they weren't there! HA!

Oh and I tweeted about your $75 acct - cheapest logo ever, I said!

Phunkmonster's picture

I've identified the exact same issues Nancy, simply because each user account is an all or nothing profile with everything jumbled in together.

It occurred to me that breaking down stock (designs) into individual accounts with very specific pricing strategies is a good idea. There also some other considerations I've been toying with. For example, all Obliquestrategist designs are priced at $125 with no make-an-offer available, no matter what the design. Anyone looking at these designs will hopefully be encouraged to buy as a result, as the prices are very reasonable, but hopefully very saleable. The same goes for the $75 dollar account - cheap, cheerful designs. Originally, Obliquestrategist was going to be all original designs, but I moved some older stock into it. Had I not, no would would of noticed ;)

My main account is for the more involved design work I've been doing, so these designs demand a higher price as a result. But crucially, I've opted to include the make-an-offer function (or will be doing when I get round to editing all the work). I've noticed that designs that sell on SL, tend to have this feature enabled. On all accounts I'm making very deliberate attempts to describe each logo accurately, and trying to maximise the searchability of each design. So, correct terminology, colour descriptions, correct spelling etc. So apologies to anyone who wanted to find my stuff, but found it had vanished. Thanks Nancy for the tweet :)

Now, watch everybody knick my idea ;)

modular's picture

Fashion labels call it diffusion lines.
So good move.

admin's picture

But the downside is it's much harder to promote multiple accounts. Also, each logo points to your account so having your logos on multiple accounts reduces the total incoming links to your account and consequently to your logos.

Phunkmonster's picture

It is harder, only if you're not prepared to do the work, and I am prepared to do the work to make the accounts successful.

Is this a bit too close to FedEx for comfort? Just wondering whether FedEx have proprietary rights over the Ex arrow/negative space 'wordmark' and they may have issues with another carrier using the same concept.

I think it is too close especially that they are in the same business.

RE: "As a manager of the site you should not give up but clearly state the rules and the arguments behind them. I'm not against you or Phunkmonster and i think this would harm the site but if you don't see a problem OK. It's not my problem."

I gave up on trying to explain the issue to you not the issue itself. While I appreciate your concern for the site and your help giving your opinion on best course of action I feel that you argue for argument sake. You seem to act as if you didn't read my comments and keep asking the same question no matter that it has already been explained several times. After the 3rd time me trying to explain it in different ways I can only conclude that you either do not understand what I'm saying or choose to ignore it. I don't know if this is a language problem or what, but in either case I can't get through to you. I don't hold it against you, it's just an observation and I wish it wasn't the case.

For those who do not want to read through all the comments here are the simple rules:

• It's ok to create multiple accounts in order to represent different artistic personalities. Just like writers have pseudo names to cater to different markets. This doesn't harm any designers, the site or clients and it's the designers choice.

• It's not ok to use these different accounts to favorite or comment your own logos on your different accounts, because this way you're gaming the system and you gain a slight advantage over other designers. Such actions would slightly hurt other designers.

admin's picture

I checked and currently many designers and clients have multiple anonymous accounts for various reasons including myself. It does not cause any problems as far as I can see.

Also, let's think about the advantages of abusing the system and how much gain it would generate. In short it's so small it is negligible. The recently favorited and most commented pages receive 13,000 viewsversus the 1,900,000 views in total per month, which means they only represent 0.68% of the total views. So if you managed to abuse the system so much that your logos are always in the front of these two views (which is not possible because you would have to favorite your logos all day long for 24 hours a day for a whole month) and if this extra attention converted into direct sales (which it doesn't because clients buy through searches not views) it would still only result in just 0.68% extra sales. In reality such abuse would result in less than 0.1% increase in sales for all this huge extra work and a risk of being banned. It simply doesn't make any sense to abuse the system this ways to gain sales.

You would be much better off using this time to rewrite your logos descriptions to make them longer and more descriptive as that would hugely increase your chances for a sale. Such an action would make a 50%-100% increase in sale.

I also want to put forward that if you guys feel the possible abuse of favoriting to be a potential problem even if it's such a minuscule issue we can simply hide the number of favorites from the public and remove the recently favorited and most comments pages as well. This way the intended funcionality of bookmarking will remain but no advantage will be give to those who favorite their own logos.

Time to start a new Forum. This one is too long now, with that last 48 messages.
