Now I've lived all my life being a redhead and been there, done that with all the "ginger" jokes. I'm not actually offendered by this logo as I'm a bit long in the tooth (old) now to bother, but, let me ask a question. If this was a face of a person of African origin and with "cxxn" or "nxxxxr" as the name for the logo it would be classed as racist and obviously frowned upon (as it should be).
The logo,

Sure this logo isn't classed as racist but it is certainly prejudice. Is that allowed here at stocklogos.com?

That fact is, if it didn't say "ginger" but instead said "redhead" this would be completely fine, as it is, it's in the staff favs and should be removed.

I think it's ok, but I'm happy to pull if people find it offensive.
I mostly lurk here but I just had to comment on this post, which is the most ridiculous and offensive I've ever seen here. Comparing Ginger to n*****, and c***. WOW. Privlaged much? Not to mention melodramatic.
instead of removing that completely harmless logo, you should consider removing this post admin.
No you're completely wrong, just because I've written those words doesn't in anyway imply I'm being offensive at all. I completely agree that those words are offensive to people of African origin and I was simply explaining that ginger is also offensive to redheads. The use of the words I put is exactly the same as you have to explain yourself in you're own post, just that you choose to blank the letters. Maybe I should of done the same and will go back and edit it.
If anyone is being melodramatic then it's you, judging by your reply. I can compare it because people in uk have indeed been victimised purely because of the colour of their hair and being called ginger to a redhead is. Read the beginning of the post, read what I put and don't put the blinkers on and automatically think that it's offensive.
I would also read the link to the BBC report.
It's a cultural thing. Depending on where you live, it could sometimes be derogatory. But, like Tim Minchin says: "Only a ginger can call another ginger ginger"
So, if Lamissol, the designer of the "ginger" logo is a red head and/or if the buyer is also a red head, then it should be okay... right? :o)
Peace,
Spintherism.
Great link by the way, brilliant, he leads them down that path and then everyone thinks ohhhh that's alright then lol. It's given me some ideas with the two words in this thread being spelt with the same letters, grgnie!
1) Haven't we already had this discussion over another "ginger" logo?
2) Every time I pop in and read this thread, I've had that Tim Minchin song playing in my head!
Yes you're right nancy we have and the offending logo was removed.
Perhaps asking the designer to rename the logo may be better. It certainly doesn't need pulling as stylistically it's the same as many of their other designs. So it's not as if it's been drawn to be particularly 'ginger' - if that makes sense?Arguing that a logo is racist relies on a common understanding of the issues at play, as I'm sure we'll all agree on.
The inherent problems of name calling and bullying of redheaded kids and adults too, is largely a UK thing, so you can understand some people not understanding how hurtful it can be. We all see the jokes on TV, particularly British TV, and this of course finds it's way to other countries, so it's seen as humour without any real understanding of how damaging it can be to the sufferer of such attacks. So on the one hand I can sympathise with Matt, but also see the other side of the coin and see how someone wont see it as offensive. A tricky one for sure.
I wouldn't have a problem if it was renamed redhead. Ginger to a redhead is simply offensive, simple as that.
I asked the designer to change it. Let's not offend anyone if we don't have to.
interesting question. Good debate. Key point here is audience. In the US, "ginger" is harmless while the C and N words are directly connected to abominable abuse towards African Americans.
Actually, I think the word "ginger" evokes an image of beautiful hair..! I'd love to have that hair!!
I looked at the logo (which now reads 'redhead'). The only thing I find offensive is the fact its a really bad illustration. The face is mean and ugly. Its just awful. Really...
I like this quirky illustration! Personality!
