Jonathan Mak Long's art

admin Wed, 06/20/2012 - 12:06

You may remember the name Jonathan Mak Long. He's the student who created the now famous Steve Jobs Tribute Apple logo. Now, he did it again. Jonathan’s student project for Coca-Cola got noticed too and picked up by the real Coca-Cola. His brief was “Share a Coke" and he answered it with a real simple poster design. The design Today won the most prestigious Cannes Lions 2012 Grand Prix in Outdoor Category.

Read more about him on AdAge and see Jonathan's Tumlbr too.

There's an error in this post. Jonathan Mak Long did NOT create the Steve Job's tribute originally. He didn't copy the idea either. He simply came up with a design that my good friend and illustrator Chris Thornley (aka Raid71) had done some 12 months previously. An example of ideas overlapping. The debate and subsequent resolution is well documented online if people care to look.

Chris has recently had cancer, and has set up a website that sells original artwork and illustrations that the public can buy in order to support cancer research in the UK. I have several prints and I urge you to do the same.
