HUGE COMPETITIONS WITH MORE LOGOS, SMALL CHANCES OF EARNING !!!

fk7951 Fri, 06/22/2012 - 02:30

I made some logos before a year ago. I saw there are more people coming on this site and joining the competition which i feel is too huge and there are less chances of earning cash. My logo which was sold was around 7-8 months ago, that gave me just US $53. Now this amount is nothing after working for hours making logos and i didnt received it, cause the site admin told that it has to be US $200 to transfer if the option is by 'check', I dont have paypal account cause the bank is not registering me here in Mumbai (India). I feel the people who are into professional logo making e.g. XBLUEDIVISION, Nancy Carter etc. are really selling their logo frequently on this site. They know what has to be done but in case of other people who are new and are less experienced, they are really wasting their time on this site in hope that they will make good money out of this. So, choice is yours, if you are that capable.

There was another member who made a similar post 2 months ago. Concerning the chances of selling logos, you have to understand that it is possible to increase your chances; the opportunity is there for everybody. One year of inactivity doesn't help.

Don't be discouraged. Like I said to the other member 2 months ago, you should read this excellent post by Nancy: http://stocklogos.com/topic/getting-more-sales (and also read some of the great replies by the Admin and others).

Peace,

Spintherism.

Thanks for the reply. I read the comments as mentioned in the posts of NancyCarter. I clearly see that, this site, one can completely rely upon a hobby or passion for designing logo. The earnings are though very less and if you are lucky, then you get the bowl or you get nothing. After few months of disappointment, that the logos are not selling further, I stopped uploading them. But though I do lot of freelance work here for few good companies and earn 100 times more than what this site offers and pay (if your logo is sold, but i didn't get any cash here till date). Say, you have uploaded a logo which took around 4-5 hours of your time, then after when you check, you see there are 30-40 logos already uploaded by different designers. Here you have only 2-3% chances of selling the logo. the point is you give 100 hours of your time to earn only US $ 100.

As I see this page and as I still believe this is, it's a logo leftover selling site. You work with real clients, make many proposals for the design the client needs, and after all he chooses only one design, but you're left with a bunch of other that weren't chosen. Then there's this site, where you just think of another name for your logo, add some tags and try to sell it, no matter if it really sells, or if it doesn't, as you've already earned the money for your work, working with the client. This is just a bonus.
And it sounds like you're spending too less time for a logo design anyway, if you really want to make something brandable.
So I do agree that making logos specially for this site to sell on, is wrong. My suggestion would be to earn some skill, find some real clients, and come here for the bonus, which really is possible.

Yes, it's a long term game. Spend a little time every day for a few month and you will start selling consistently. When you design for contests think of ideas that are generic enough to be put in the store if they are not the winners.

Hi! I am a newbie here, but I have been working with some other logo sites. I like the forum posts here, it's fun to read, especially with the number little warfare going on with the searching and the admin doing a good job about it- I would like to buy and sell logos..will that work? Of course I will only be buying cheap ones that I feel have potential.

This is my point of view as a client, buying a logo. This is what I see - Most of the logos priced above $200 are far too complicated, too much color and graphics. I know designers spent time with those logos, and I do not know the stats of sales. Clients who come to this site are not millionaires - these may be local business owners who want to the least amount of money spent on a logo. Have you considered having a price ceiling too? It looks to me that this is beginning to be a numbers game for logo designers.

As a logo designer and entrepreneur, it may be how you market your logo. If I write better descriptions and tag my logos appropriately then it means more exposure to the right set of client right? Better chances of selling. If I have 50 logos in one category selling at $100, will it make a $250 logo standout or look ordinary? It depends on how good your $250 is against my $100’s are.

My point is: newbies (entrepreneurs) like me will try to overwhelm the competition with sheer number and cheaper pricing - much like what china is doing. We are sorry if we are going to cause competition here, but that is our job, to earn and to market things in our way. If we sell, then it's good. Right?

Contests have a set price so you can only compete with quality there. Otherwise I agree.
