I thing it shouldn't be considered as violation. It's just too simple not to have been done before. They are both good but too similar. For the second one that is reported - there's even closer one - two human shapes forming a heart, i just can't find it.
I think neither is a violation. But I wish there was no such similarity.

Not sure what you mean by this. I did not enter the contest nor did I receive a bid on my logo. Mine is a logo for sale that the CH added to his/her favorites, which clearly has been used for inspiration and, regardless of how you got there, it definitely is too similar to my logo.

He said that into some comments in the contest, he wants a big similarity in the logo.
I gave up of presenting some new variations because the constant requests to do something EQUAL to that!
I think in the end, there will be some struggle to finalize that contest...
Also the problem is that the client seems to favor or like the entries that use clipart which is ultimately encouraging those that don't know (or care) about the rules of this site to use clipart on their logos.

It's most probably a browser cache issue. Try to do a cache refresh (Ctrl+F5 or Command+F5 in most browsers). Alternatively, you could try loading the same page in another browser.

When I checked with firefox, the problem has gone.
As a former web dev I can honestly say never seen such a persistent cache problem.

In my opinion this happens when somebody upload a logo with the same file name wforex_2.png
The original name of the file is irrelevant, the system renames it after upload with a unique name of 43 alphanumerical characters. If it's not a browser cache problem, then, like paint.box said in May, it might be a problem with the LIFO/FIFO queue of uploaded images.
It really looks as a same concept and suppose there may be problems!

This was flagged by AKMulligan the day after the upload (and according to her, that same logo was taken down before). I still believe that it is a modification of a readily available vector, particularly because some of the random dots are an exact match. But the Admin decided that it was okay.

Shall we pull it or not? I'm undecided on this one.
If this is allowed, and this violation is kept, then it will give a bad example and precedent. Others will start using modified stock vector shapes thinking it's okay. This really looks like the stock vector was brought in Photoshop to apply some filters and slight modifications, then it was vectorized in Illustrator using "live trace". One way to check is to analyze the anchor-point density.

What is stocklogos' policy on uploading logos on this site to other stock sites? I thought it wasn't allowed...?
It's one of those grey areas. It's not actively encouraged, but it is allowed providing members can keep track of each account and manage them if one sells. It's only a real issue if one logo was to sell on both sites on the same day. Not likely to happen, but it could. So it's best avoided really.

From the descrption you can see how i did the design and i agree that the two design look similar but still different enough. I will remove it if you find it too similar.
I would alter yours a bit more to make it different from the other, just to be safe.

My opinion is that they are similar ONLY in the way that they both are based on the letter H (and that alone cannot be a ground for complainingabout similarity). I see no other similarities, so they are absolutely different to me. Yours is based on outlines around the letter H, and has a white square on the to right and a red square on the bottom left. And it actually looks great.
The Hurriyet logo has no outlines, and uses split background colors (black and red). It has different proiportions, and it looks very amateurish.
Also, I took the freedom to delete the comment under your logo, because if you go to http://www.hurriyete.com/, you will notice that the hurriyete logo looks actually like that: http://www.hurriyete.com/multimedia/image/hur_logo.jpg which is a logo that has completely different proportions that what you posted here, and is in fact a truncated version of http://www.hurriyete.com/images/hurriyete_ilan_ust.jpg (see logo on the right side with the company full name).
So there is no sense in comparing the two logos, they are different in every possible way.

You need to be absolutely sure before calling out a submission, so find the original first and provide a link. Otherwise anyone could call a logo submission a copy etc. That's how arguments start on this site ;)

I realize that's how arguments start here and how it must suck to ever be called out about it. I'm new here and would greatly appreciate it if someone who's been here longer could please take a look winning logo and tell me if it looks like it was using clip art or not? I AM absolutely sure that the winning logo bears a resemblance to stock clip art. What I'm not sure is if it is actually a violation of the rules as I am new here. I mean someone could draw their own shutter in illustrator and that would make it original would it not? Thanks. :)
That one doesn't look identical to my naked eye. When I made the comparison to the other submissions, I actually overlayed one on the other in Photoshop to make sure they matched up. I don't think they would in this case.
Oh ok. So matching them by overlaying them is the way to accurately see if they're clip art. I did overlay them in Photoshop just now and they wern't a perfect match. If you look at the winning logo up close you can also see that the shutter shapes arn't evenly spaced between the triangles so it couldn't be a perfect match anyhow. They are however the same idea of a shape and contain the same 6 swirled triangles to create a shutter. I guess that wouldn't be a violation. It is very very close though in my opinion.

This should be implemented ASAP on both the contest upload and the store upload pages (there is room). Maybe even a "I've read and understand the rules" check box with a warning about banning.
I know that there will still be some violations, but at least a copy of the rules and the upload form itself will be in the same place so there will be no more reasons not to read the rules.
I seems that the number of violations per week is augmenting, but this might be less evident because it also seems that the number of new users per week is augmenting as well. Maybe it is just an illusion. Ivan, could you confirm?

I think it should be a requirement that users contributing to contest have 10 or so logos uploaded to the store first for the sake of rules and quality control.

I second that, only users that have at least 10 uploaded and checked stock logotypes should be allowed to contests. Also, Spintherism is right about the addition of the note and the checklist, it definitely should be on the upload page. Looks like the majority of the new uploaders simply don't read the rules when subscribing, so on the upload page, I would indeed add a checkbox beside a prominent notice that say that if the logotype that is about to be uploaded infringes the rules listed above, it will result in an imminent ban of the uploader.
There is way too much infringing uploaders, and they simply need to be somehow reminded of the rules before they even upload their "creations".

There are countless instances of that particular silhouette online, I wasn't going to list them all so I picked one, but they are all the same. Regardless of the source, the usage of any instance of any vector silhouette is still a violation of the rules.

Normally I would take the time to search for the exact source, but for this case, I don't think it is necessary (particularly due to the quality of the other logos in his portfolio). These violations were flagged by paint.box on Monday, then the user made slight modifications and re-uploaded.
If this is allowed, and this violation is kept, then it will give a bad example and precedent. Others will start using modified stock vector shapes thinking it's okay.

The main image is not vector. It has the soft-shadow noise characteristically found in 3d-software output with no adaptive under-sampling and/or a low ray values for light tracer lighting (or equivalent settings).

The image you are pointing it is, in fact, a render from a 3d application of the logo, however the work it was created with vector software (Corel, in this case) and all the additional images are vectors.

Isn't a case where the logo it's a trace or copyed or any other commun violations, it's (as mock-ups are) a way of showing an application of the logo. I can provide all native files.
Bottom line, all the work are vectors and thank you for pointing this.

You are welcome, I am glad to help.
As far as I know, it is okay to show a bitmap 3d rendering as a mock-up on the additional images section of the logo page, but not as your main logo image (even if the bitmap 3d render is based on a vector spline that is converted into a 3d mesh). All the other versions of your logo were clearly vector tracings of your own 3d rendering, those are okay. Tracing is acceptable, as long as you own the copyright of the original image or photo.
So yes, if you swap the current bitmap main logo image with one of the other vector ones you will be following the rules. But make sure that the additional image really looks like an additional image... You see, mock-ups can be a little bit confusing to some uninitiated clients; some mock-ups are not scalable vector and in any case, clients can't directly download the additional image files by default. So there might be some explaining to do after a sale. :o)

This is quite outrageous. Stocklogos will have no credibility with potential clients if this sort of thing continues to happen.
There should be more control at time of submission. Some things are just obviously clip art.
I reported this logo yesterday afternoon.
There are several problems. Not only it's based on stock, but it is a trace. A bad trace on top of that. Also, it was submitted after the contest was officially closed by somebody who had already several violations.
Nancy's idea of a requirement of 10 verified contributions for new users before allowing them to enter contests is clearly a good solution.
Plus, there should be a copy of the rules on both upload pages and maybe on the "guides" layer of the template (like the original template used to have).

Just because pspman92 and smpm91 have some characters in common you can not jump to conclusions.
On top of the fact that their respective portfolios have different styles, the banned user pspman92 gave several hints to being Eastern European and the current user smpm91 has given some hints to being from South America.
About the logo in question, probably this is the common case of a user not understanding the rules.

The contests really need some quality control as Paint.Box referring on a post above.
IMO, those clipart can change the way of a contest. The user who make the illegal act don't win and if wins, he will be declassified after, but before that the client can be leaned too choose a design and after that, changes the direction of he (client) wants...(don't know if i am being clear here).
It's unfair for other designers who spend hours working with the guidance and the rate of the client and this happens in the last 24hours of the contest...

Not only this is definitely clip-art (same as the fifth source above called tansent), but also, this logo should have been "Off brief" because it did not addressed the exact requirements that the client specified in the contest (Om symbol, lotus flower, seven colors of chakra).
Also, if you read the comments on that particular logo, the user continue working on further versions outside of StockLogos after the closing of the contest (which is against the rules and the reason why Ivan disabled the Edit button after closing). This user also asked the client to select that logo as a winner in order to get other new versions made after the closing of the contest and even went as far as asking for more money to provide modifications that were supposed to be there in the first place (details that were already explained in the initial brief).

But these are not "further changes"; the lotus was asked from the beginning in the contest description.
Ivan, you should prohibit external links in logo comments, particularly for contest. It has now been proven that external links are a loop hole for closed contests.

Yes, Ivan. I can clarify.
Since, [A] the rules indicate that designers are not allowed to upload or change a contest logo after the contest is closed;
Since, [B] external links in logo comments could be used to submit additional logos after closing of a contest;
Since, [C] prohibition of submitting additional logos via an external link is not explicitly mentioned in the rules;
And since, [D] a loophole is an ambiguity or omission in text through which the intent of a contract may be evaded;
Then, the usage of external links to submit logos after the closing of a contest is a loophole in the rules and most importantly, it defeats the purpose of a blind contest. This is definitely a violation.
If this is allowed and this violations is kept, then it will give a bad example and precedent. Others will start submitting logos after the closing of a contest via external links thinking it's okay.
Furthermore, the user in question violated other rules or guidelines, written or unwritten:
- The rules indicate: "You can not use any ready-made design elements", the original submission is definitely clip-art.
- The rules indicate: "[Contest] logos must answer the requirements listed by client in the contest", the original submission didn't addressed several of the requirements.
- The contest help indicates "We can extend the contest and invite more designers to make sure you can find a winning design", but the user convinced the client saying "you don't have to extend your contest, all you need to do is buy this one and you'll get all versions (all 3 logos) free of charge [...]".
- The client said about the externally submitted logos: "yes but, there something i don't like in this logo. I want, the 7 petals looks likes real petal of lotus[...]". The user then asked the client for more money saying "[...] further changes can be done for extra money. I've already put enough work in it for $200. Both symbols are versatile and can be sold to another client and with a good possibility by a higher price. So it's up to you." This is really not okay, it is borderline extortion and/or intimidation. Surely this is against StockLogos ideology and principles.
- The initial contract between StockLogos and the client was to get a logo for an agreed-upon fee. The user found a way to get extra money for something that should not be considered "further changes", since they were requirements initially agreed-upon. This is completely different than the further work mentioned in the rules: "Usually the clients need further work on the identity and you can work with client directly for an extra fee outside of StockLogos."
At the end of the contest, the client did not have a final logo, the client will be obligated to pay extra money for requirement that should have been already in the original submission, plus, it will all happen outside of StockLogos, with no quality control and/or verification of clip-art usage.

So basically this is what happened from my understanding:
First, designer uploaded a logo which wasn't original, but it's not clipart just a common shape used by other companies. We can't know if this is coincidence or not. So here the problem is negligence of checking from the designer.
Second, designer commented with new versions after closing the contest in comments. This should not have happened, but the designer didn't mean bad he was just replying to client's request. Still it's not allowed. He should've only said that yes it can be done after the winning logo is chosen and do not post any links.
Since the original logo has already been changed and client got a new unique design I wrote to client to find out if he minds the original logo not being unique. If the client is ok with this situation we will keep the logo as a winner. And the designer will get one strike for not following our rules. I will also ask him to read this thread so he understands what not to do in the future. If the client says he's not happy about the situation we will ask him to pick a new winner.
Does this make sense? Do you agree with it?

With all due respect, just because Paint.box and Psoares couldn't find the original exact source, it doesn't mean it is not clip-art. One of the images Paint.box found (http://www.tansent.com/clpic/201252512446.jpg) has RGB values that are extremely close to the submitted logo in question. Not to mention, uncanny similarities in shape placement and proportions. Most probably this clip-art is available in the Deep Web (content that is not indexed by standard search engines); maybe only accessible using an Eurasian search engine.
What about the borderline extortion/intimidation? This was explained in my previous post. May I please ask your opinion on that?
Could you also, express your opinion on the fact that the client did not have a final logo and the fact that the client will be obligated to pay extra money for requirements that should have been already in the original submission. All this, outside of StockLogos and without verification.
Finally, what can be done to prevent this from happening again? Is it possible to automatically validate the content of a comment in the contest section (comments in logos and in contests) and prevent users/clients from posting links all together? This will also prevent the "I made a logo for you, here's the link" posts we keep seeing in contest.

Somehow, i think contest participants, need to be picked by staff, i mean, like: a user can only be a contest participant, after winning that "title", now, how the staff can select those artists, i don't know, but if all the participants follow some examples of users here in the site (example: paint.box, spintherism, NancyCD, MelanieD, RTorres, Nekiy, Creative art, Nike and many many others), certainly it will be a win/win/win (Client/User/Stocklogos) situation...

Ivan, so what are you going to do about this whole situation? I mean, designers here are very concerned by the tons of infringements that occur on almost every contest, and they have even recommended several ways to improve the situation, like:
- an immediate ban of the infringing designer
- more prominent rules on the submit page that require the designer to read/scroll the rule's text to submit (so here is no "I didn't see the rules" situation)
- only designers that have proven their honesty and professionalism can post logos to contests
- etc...
So the (my) question is: are you working on some sort of changes? I would really appreciate the possibility to participate in contests, but for now I don't see the point of entering a contest full of clipart and plagiarism.
Also, a question that is probably a little off-topic, but what changes/improvements to the site are we going to see in the near future? For example I find the lack of view counter on the logo's pages very disturbing, because I simply cannot track the success of my shares of logotype pages on social networks. Also, will bugs like the disappearing avatar be fixed soon?

Yes, we're working on all of those things. In the last few weeks we were fixing bugs. But soon we're going to start adding new features.
I'm collecting all the ideas currently and evaluating them. No decision has been made yet on how we would change things on contest, but all the things you mentioned are very likely.

The last logo (http://www.tansent.com/clpic/201252512446.jpg and maybe not only this one) is stolen FROM me not BY me! This symbol was on stocklogos for more then 7 month, I made it for 'mass movement' contest, it didn't win the contest so it was in store. Site administration can confirm that. Before submitting it for 'nusquama' contest I deleted it from store this same day.
As for a tamplate, It was 100% original design. The form and the colors.
As for using comments to customize the logo. It was client's wish. I should've told the client that he should buy it first, and then I can customize it. I was wrong here, I can agree with that.
And in conclusion. My logo shouldn't be in this thread. I'm a professional designer with nine years of experience, I have awards for my work and I'm offended with this.
