Downloading purchased logos.

Phunkmonster Mon, 05/21/2012 - 04:58

Before the site updates, I was able to access and download logos that have sold, now I can't. I guess this is a security measure?

It's also a bit of a pain, because I've had requests to make some changes to a logo, and if I don't have the files with me, can't do so till I get back to work. If I'm holiday then making the client wait is not fair really.

I used to simply download the version of the sold logo from site and make amendments from that. Any chance of bringing this feature back as it's incredibly useful?

Also, the client has indicated they've had trouble downloading their logo also. The logo in question is this one: http://stocklogos.com/logo/send-some-love-7

Was that pigeon logo a Staff favourite?

Thanks.

Nope. Why do you ask? I did have a few originally in the SF section, but when I culled my account and then reuploaded my stock, a lot didn't go back in. It's nice to have logos in that section, but it's not a be all and end all for me. Of all the 21 designs I've sold on here, not one of them sales has come from the SF section. Interestingly, the sales I'm getting is leading to repeat work from the clienst, which is great and ultimately the goal of a sale on here.

Because I was sure this was not the contest winner. I also don't rate it, I personally think it's a million miles from The Type Factory which I really rate. With that said I thought the only way this logo could sell is to have a gazillion hits from the Staff favourites section. I was wrong. Can I ask what's your average price on the 21 logo's sold and would you say your sales come from outside StockLogo's? Or from Stocklogo's traffic?

I have been thinking about getting a blog etc. and driving traffic to my page and individual Logo's on here. There's a few issues with the site I have which always discourage me, Staff Favourites being a big issue, but your post kind of gives me heart and look more in that direction.

Creating a blog and driving traffic to your account is the right way to go. It helps with google optimisation and thus your logos will come up higher in google searches. And that's where the sales are coming from. I can see in chat where clients are coming when they are buying and the typical situation is to see a google search like "computer gear" and a few minutes later client chatting me up asking questions and they buying a logo. When I check in google the query for the sold logo is the first on the list. Example: http://j.mp/LwrPvg

So, in a nutshell, create a blog, a pinterest page, a twitter account, a facebook page, etc. and create incoming links to your account and individual logos. The more incoming links to your pages the more sales. This is basic SEO lesson 1. Everything else you're doing is good, you have nice long descriptions and good tags.

Hey thanks Ivan that's good advice. I will follow, I'm also looking at doing my own site, and putting my own blog script on there. I've had a few sites in the past and have two currently (not design related) so I know about optimisation. The thing is link trading though, as you know that's where it is at and if I have no PR to offer there's no real trading to be had. As you explained that's where the social networks will come in (free links back) but I have to admit at being backward and lazy about this aspect of it. I'll slowly get there though.

Hey Greg, it would be boring if all like the same thing right? The Type Factory logo is developing into a really interesting project. The logo is being presented three ways for a publishing press. So smoke that's coming out of the chimney has been changed to read fiction, poetry and drama. Obviously this means there's lots of ways to develop the identity on. What's also exciting is the guy who's bought it is only 40 minutes drive down the road and there's a lot of other design work coming out of it.

The Send Some Love logo is an exercise of what I like doing most. Really researching design ideas and setting them out. If you read the logo description, there's a lot of symbolism going on. Again, the client has requested changes etc. they clearly see value in the design, which is ultimately the most important thing,

Ivan is right though, driving traffic to your stock is the best way to go. There's so many designs for sale on here now, that relying solely on description, tags etc is not a guarantee of being found. I do push my work but not actively, I'm just too busy at the moment with other work. When I'm quiet that's when I get pushing ;)

No offence, that Send Some Love logo was just not my cup of tea and it was originally for a competition so I know where you're coming from. I never associated the rainbow with Christianity so I have learnt something, I would normally associate it with the LGTB community.

Great news about the Type Factory Logo, I read the Logo thread so that means you're a NW lad? Boooo lol :)

Yes you're right, it seems getting one's own traffic is the key and it's this that I will be looking at working on when I have the time.

Hi Greg, in answer to your question about average price it works out as follows:

21 logos sold to the total of $3171 (this does not included site fee deductions), the average price is approx $156 or there abouts per logo.

I'm not sure where or how clients are finding my designs. I do have a link back to my profile page here on every other site I'm a member of. So profiles on Twitter, Behance, Basschat, etc etc. So there's always a way to find me even if I don't tweet them etc. I do on occasion Tweet my designs, and I have had a blog in the past on Tumblr, but being very busy with work means I can't always keep on top of them. Other designers like Applex do great blogging work, and he has featured a few of my designs in them. Whether or not this has led to a sale I can't say.

I'm a firm advocator of good descriptive text about the logo design and good logo titles. So avoid things like 'Send 1' for example. Also, I do believe that clients pick up on those logos that have clearly had thought put into the descriptions and titling and how it relates back to the design. If you sell yourself professionally, then clients will more than likely want to work with you. Obviously this isn't a hard and fast rule, but for me at least, it's important enough to do.

Thanks for sharing. I'm having to re-think my pricing strategy, I'm fast learning selling stock is miles away from working for a client in real time. I personally can't churn logo's out really fast though. That's not a slight at you by the way or anyone else for that matter, it's just I know another key to getting sales here is also having a lot of logo's and I can't do that. I sometimes spend hours on something that might look like it took five minutes to come up with, I realise I can't charge for that time but only the actual end product and it's a bit of a learning curve.

It sounds like you are well established in the networking community it would be good if Ivan could give you a hint if any sales came from that. I think from what he has said earlier sales have probably come from your other sources which again is encouraging. I think I will have problems with the tweeting business the other stuff I can do when I get the time.
