the exclamation mark is spot on, I'm not sure the chefs hat is coming through though. Before I read your
description, I thought it was spatula. Maybe the vertical lines could be horizontal.

the spatula idea may be a way to take that, and would be very relevant to the brief.

The concept behind this is great! But Myriad font! Need I say more ;)
What can I say? I thought it worked! I do confess to sometimes being nervous of someone posting an idea so similar I would have lost my chance of putting my foot in the door. If the client expresses interest, I don't mind putting in the extra effort.
I'm encouraged that my fellow designers are commenting on this logo but I suspect our client has a different look in mind.
BTW, great logos coming up recently. Really enjoying this site.
I personally like the way the type compliments the illustration. I, unlike the first comment, knew exactly what it was without seeing the type. I think it came together well. The only thing I think I might change is the color, other than that great work!
