Just thought of an alternative to this idea... what if the house outside of the selection area is a little bit rougher than that within the marquee? This way, the improvement aspect of the design will be highlighted more... just a thought. Bye :)

I thought of representing a pencil rough sketch of a house, while the highlighted area would be crisp and colored. Also, improving the pointer shape to make it look more like a computer mouse arrow will greatly benefit to the 'online' idea of this logo.
