About your Company/Product/Service
Once considered New Castle’s “best kept secret”, the word is out on the Hoyt Center For The Arts and its vision to “provide the best possible arts to the greatest number of people” This thriving regional arts center and museum, once home to the Hoyt family, now houses more than 50 arts classes and workshops, 24 annual exhibits, annual cultural festivals, and school programs in two stately 1917 mansions on five acres of New Castle’s residential north hill.
Despite its growing reputation, many visitor are still surprised at the “metropolitan” quality of cultural opportunities offered from this neighborhood venue, including school programs, artist residences, annual festivals, concerts, and regional and national art competitions.
Special Requirements
Hoyt needs ample prominence in the logo but does not necessarily need to overpower. The grounds and buildings were donated by the Hoyt family and there are many on the board that were there from the founding of the center. Thus, a lot of sensitivity to keeping that name highlighted.
Target audience
Community wide targeting. The programming and services of the Hoyt range from after school arts programs for at-risk kids, to fine art exhibitions and regional juried competitions.
Your objectives
We need a logo that appeals to both the fine arts crowd, but is still inclusive and approachable to the Hoyts new mission of "bringing the community up" as opposed to brining the quality of the programming down. New Castle, PA is a distressed city and the Hoyt is one of the organizations committed to helping to rebuild the community and it's residents through the arts.
So in a nutshell, something that retains class yet does not feel exclusive. Classy, yet modern. Just the kind of vagueness that designers love, I know. ;)

One thing to add to the brief, and I apologize for not being completely clear on this: when we separate the wordmark from any design element, please keep "Hoyt" and "Center For The Arts" as the separation as opposed to "Hoyt Center" and "For The Arts".
Apologies, first time using this service and I was unclear.
