Brief Status
Closed About Yourself
I am a 35 year old Aussie living in Canada. I am starting a company of soft toys that attach to the wall with velcro - can be a wall decoration for a room, or can easily be pulled down by the child when they want to play. The first line is a line, Millcove & Friends, of 7 animals. All have very long arms and legs, the same shaped bodies and heads, and all are smiling. The monkey is the main one. Target Audience
Target is kids 0-9, and mom's looking to decorate nursery/kid's room Your Objectives
Needs to be able to be printed in one colour and still look good - as for first order I can only print the tags in one colour. But for everything else - ie. website, multi colour would be fine.
The smile is key, so maybe that could be incorporated in.

Thank-you so much for your e-mail and I really appreciate the time and effort you have taken.
Unfortunately, I have still been unable to view your design - I hope that they will have it sorted out so I can at least view tomorrow - if you know of anything else you can do so I can see it, I would really appreciate it.
I know I have not yet seen your design, but based on the 6 I have been ale to see, I wanted to add a few comments. As this is primarily a child’s product, I am looking for something that conveys the fun associated with a child’s toy, but is still elegant and classy. I know my website is still in the preliminary stages, but the photos may help to provide some input. Just as an example, this is a logo I saw, and instantly loved.…

Thank-you so much for your e-mail and I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this design. It is really cute. If I can help give some guidance with regards to what I am looking for, as this is primarily a child’s product, I am looking for something that conveys the fun associated with a child’s toy, as your logo does, but is still elegant and classy. Hi Amanda,
Thanks for your input. It's difficult to provide the highest quality advice in an open forum such as this. I prefer (as most designers do) to discuss your needs in private. But, we work with what we've got. I think we would be wise to take our cues from other major players in the industry like Toys R Us, Playskool, Barbie etc. Their logos are designed to appeal to the child herself or the adults with the money by communicating the message, "This is something your child would like to play with and it's safe too." In doing that, they shy away from elegance and class which, tend to be elements that appeal strictly to adults, while remaining affordable and safe. Chuck E. Cheese takes a similar approach. They target the attention of the end-user knowing that the parent will pay as much attention as the child wants them to pay. It's the "Place the candy on the lowest shelf" approach. It's a little subversive, I know, but it works. The good news is that, what we can take from this observational exercise is that the major players have spent enormous amounts of money on focus groups and market testing which, we can benefit from freely by closely analyzing the choices they've made and then following their lead. With that said, I think the reason you haven't yet seen any designs that really knock your socks off is because we have all been concentrating our efforts on a logo designed to appeal to the child as opposed to the parent - I know that's what I did. Trying to do both could prove problematic. Parents think in terms of safety, value, ease of care, etc, while children are just looking for things that are colorful and interesting. They don't care how easy it is to clean or put away. I think you have a unique concept here that can really work provided the toy is as fun for the child to play with as it is practical for the parent to maintain. So, after all my babbling, my question is this, do you prefer that your logo capture the attention of the child first, or their mom? Should it say, "This is a wonderful toy that you (or your child) will love to play with." or, "This is a wonderful toy that makes cleaning up the room easy and fun and that's why you should buy it for your child."? Based on the link you provided, I get the impression that you're thinking more in terms of capturing the attention of the parent rather than the child.
After analyzing your brief and googling your product we came with 3 ideas....
http://stocklogos.com/node/4842
As you said we used the main character (the monkey) on the logo of the whole line and also featured a big smile in each proposal.... We hope you like them all...
In the first two proposals we are presenting the one color version but in the third one we are presenting full color versions of the logo... This is just to provide you with the extended possibilities and personalities you can add to each logo....
Also if you dont like the colors you can change them after purchasing the image...
We used a very curved font because after applying 250 surveys in our cite we concluded that our targets (kids 0-9, mom's looking to decorate nursery/kid's room and also teachers from kindergartens are usually more attracted to this type and also to bright neon-like colors or rainbow styled logos because they represent happiness and healthy environments)
We dont used the Millcove an Friends sub-line because you need to create and to position the brand first and then the Millcove and Friends collection can be added in web, print or general advertising. Its like Toys R Us or Fischer-Price they always use their main image and then the secondary one to promote an specific product, promotion or idea.
I hope you like our proposal as much as we do
Best Regards

Unfortunately I am still unabole to view your designs. Hopefully I will be able to view soon
BBased on the logos I have seen from others, I wanted to add, that although this is primarily a child’s product, and I am looking for something that conveys the fun associated with a child’s toy, I still want it to be elegant and classy. Hey Amanda,
I have a concept for you to review here:
http://stocklogos.com/node/4950
You'll notice this logo could easily work in one color, and is simple enough that it will still be recognizable and readable at a small size (when thinking about price tags and tags on the animals themselves.)
Cheers,
Rocket Summer
